Memory sketch bust

On my way back from the NCN Con. I had a layover in Atlanta. I decided I wanted to do a memory sketch. As I walked to my gate I looked at various people. Then...there he was! A guy I needed to draw. So I took a mental snap shot and went to a restaurant and drew on the placemat. I did a quick drawing and then to my surprise, the guy I randomly chose to draw sat right next to me! This SOB wrecked my memory sketch! I didn't have to draw from memory when he's right friggin' there! What a jerk.

I snuck* a quick pic of him and acted like I was just trying to figure out my camera.

*Sure it's a word.

Life Drawing at the CON

As I mentioned in a previous post I went to the NCN convention. There were several workshops and one in particular that I enjoyed was DRAWING FROM LIFE with STEPHEN SILVER. It was a great class. We had a beautiful model posing named Schaulis. We did quick gesture poses and then we created a character based on her and did 4 point turns.

Vertigo

Here's my entry for a monthly contest on the NCN forum. The contest is to do a still from a Hitchcock movie. I picked Vertigo. I thought it would be interesting doing an illustration that showed a reflection.

My Con work

Here's some artwork I created at the con.

Caricature Convention

180 competing artists filled the ballroom and created hundreds of works of original artwork. Every artist gets a piece of wall to hang up what they create.

NCN Convention 2008

I attended the annual caricature convention that took place in Raleigh, NC. It is an experience that anyone who is in caricature should attend. There is a lot to be gained in the one week event. There are workshops from top pros in the field and competitions that go on. It's great to meet artists from all over the world who do what you do. If you don't learn anything from going, quit doing caricatures and pick up something else...basket weaving perhaps.
