DSC spot illos

Here's a couple spot illustrations for Michael Cole (SalonDev.com not the WWE commentator) to use in his presentations when working with DSC's. Sales consultants. Not the most exciting stuff in the world but what is pretty cool (to me) is that the top four people can be swapped around and the chair and station are separate pieces.

DSC Drivin' Illustration

Here's an illustrated map that is representing how a DSC may drive to many salons in one day and have multiple visits to some. For the rest of us it can represent 'pre-internet' and 'pre-cellphone' days when to price compare you drive around town and axe them!

MC BGTD! Bobble head

This is a bobble head design of my boss Michael Cole at Salon Development Corp. BGTD! Boom Goes The Dynamite! There would be a mini poster of an explosion to put it in back of the bobble head.

Here's the bobble head we did a few years back. It was based off of the caricature of Michael I did for the 'A Little More Off The Top' book that came out in 2004. I think the sculptors did a great job. I did turnarounds for them to go off of but I can't find those designs. I look forward to seeing if we are able to make the new Michael BGTD! bobble head. I think my art has improved and the the likeness is stronger.

Committee In My Head

Here's another version of the Committee In My Head illo but this time with my boss. I guess it is fairly common to have a bunch or your heads floating around telling you to do stuff.

Don't you hate it when your mini heads start floating around
your head in a cloud? I know I do!

Learning Curve

Here's the newest version of The Learning Curve!
It will appear in the new book,
Over the Top - Best Client Practices of Top 20 Stylists!
It is an illustration that demonstrates that no matter what goal we set,
we have to take it through the Learning Curve and have to deal with B.S.
There's more to it than that of course.
There's a lesson in the book dedicated to it.
The book comes out this spring!

I have really busy lately. I have been doing illustration for the book for SDC whom I work for. I love working with them and doing cartoons for them. I also have been taking a steady stream of freelance work in. My car needed some repairs so I have had a hard time saying no to freelance even though I am way swamped with work. I am also doing a Fringe Show. What's that?! Fringe Fest happens every year in Minneapolis where various theaters have one act plays playing one after another for the first few weeks of August. I am acting in Table for Two. It's a romantic comedy and is a lot of fun. I helped with some of the production parts of the show. I did some Photoshop work to our photos and put together our postcard. I also help with some of the props too.

An interesting freelance assignment I have is for the Minneapolis Club. I am doing 12 line art illustrations similar to the work of Frank Wing. Frank Wing's work is amazing! There is a pub in the club where the illustrations will be hung up. 12 of them mine and 12 Frank Wing's. I can't recreate his style but mine will be a nice tribute to the current members whereas Wing's features members from some where around 1916!

The book will be finished real soon and then I will have a printed copy by January!
I have some custom clip art to make for General Mills and some other various freelance.
When it rains, it pours!!

Better to be really busy than sitting here twiddling my thumbs.

Freaked out

Here's an illo for the book I am working on with SDC.
It's for hair stylists.
This has to do with appearances. The stylist and client have made assumptions based off of each other's appearance. Shame on them! When you assume you make an "ASS" out of "U" and "ME".
Everybody knows that!!

Stylist Movie Posters

Here's some more art from the book I am illustrating.
I think whether you are a hairstylist or not, you can relate.
I know when I was working as a live caricaturist I had days
that felt like these.

SUZI Videos

This is a trailer or preview I made for work.
I work for Salon Development Corp. and we
create materials for training and education
and personal development geared towards
the salon industry. Mainly for stylists.

We recently put some classic videos on DVD
and I designed and created everything for it.
I created the package design. I did the menu screens,
which has some animation and a group
caricature illustration of all the characters
Michael Cole plays. It was a lot of fun.

We are relaunching our website soon and I did
this preview to help with sales of the new/old
product. The original videos were done in
1985-87 and still are entertaining! That's
the way training videos should be!
