Here is a gift caricature I did for a corporate client.

They wanted a superhero theme and I was careful to not do anything like a trademarked character. If you look at my website you can see I like red and blue. I thought yellow would be a good color to throw in the costume too since it is a primary color also.

I have really busy lately. I have been doing illustration for the book for SDC whom I work for. I love working with them and doing cartoons for them. I also have been taking a steady stream of freelance work in. My car needed some repairs so I have had a hard time saying no to freelance even though I am way swamped with work. I am also doing a Fringe Show. What's that?! Fringe Fest happens every year in Minneapolis where various theaters have one act plays playing one after another for the first few weeks of August. I am acting in Table for Two. It's a romantic comedy and is a lot of fun. I helped with some of the production parts of the show. I did some Photoshop work to our photos and put together our postcard. I also help with some of the props too.

An interesting freelance assignment I have is for the Minneapolis Club. I am doing 12 line art illustrations similar to the work of Frank Wing. Frank Wing's work is amazing! There is a pub in the club where the illustrations will be hung up. 12 of them mine and 12 Frank Wing's. I can't recreate his style but mine will be a nice tribute to the current members whereas Wing's features members from some where around 1916!

The book will be finished real soon and then I will have a printed copy by January!

I have some custom clip art to make for General Mills and some other various freelance.

When it rains, it pours!!

Better to be really busy than sitting here twiddling my thumbs.

This has to do with appearances. The stylist and client have made assumptions based off of each other's appearance. Shame on them! When you assume you make an "ASS" out of "U" and "ME".

For my new nephew that is almost here I painted a monkey and a giraffe on the wall of his room.
Why a giraffe and monkey? That's what my brother and his wife wanted. I don't do a lot of this kind of work. It was kinda fun to do something that wasn't digital which most of my work is.

First used a projector to trace outlines of art onto wall...
Painted a white base of gesso...
Projected the sketch again on the base and traced with pencil and then used Sharpies over it...
Airbrushed it.

I had my first figure drawing session of the year. I have been going consistently for 6 months now! I think it has really helped me. I notice it when I am drawing my simple cartoony illustrations and need to create a body I am a bit less reliant on reference. (Still use reference when needed)

I started figure drawing because a teacher I had preached about it. I took Stephen Silver's class a little over a year ago, I think, and that was a HUGE jumping off point. I feel I am on an upward curve.

A great teacher is of no use though if you don't listen and do what they say. Sometimes they may not make sense and it may be out of your comfort zone but if you do it, you grow!

Okay. I am not one to act like I have it all figured out. I just continue to try to get better.

I will let Silver inspire you and help you with his wisdom.

This year's ISCA convention was held in Sandusky Ohio. It was another great year. The opportunity to meet artists from all over the world and to see their work is an amazing experience.

The Kalahari Resort was a fun place that has a huge water park.

OX Tattoo

My Cousin Andrew got a tattoo that I design for him. He had a sketch of a cool designed ox head he wanted. I made designs based off that. His chinese zodiac is the Ox. I made two designs and we ended up combining parts together to create one good one. He is going to get shading added later. I think he is going to omit the red glowing eyes which is good. It kinda looks like a Terminator ox skull with them. I know that writing on the forehead is Japanese (Kanji) but it works and that's what he wanted. After the shading is added I will post the pics.
